Edmonton Gas Prices Drop Below $1.05/L, Expected to Remain Low into January

Drivers in Edmonton enjoy unexpected savings at the pump as gas prices fall below $1.05 per litre, with forecasts indicating continued affordability into the new year.

Edmonton motorists are experiencing a welcome surprise this holiday season as gas prices have dipped below $1.05 per litre at several stations across the city.

According to recent reports, stations such as Costco, UFA, and Esso are offering prices under $1.05 as of December 29, 2025.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, attributes this decline to a pause in the federal carbon tax, enabling these ultra-low prices not only in Alberta but across much of Canada.

As of December 29, 2025, Alberta boasts the cheapest gas in the country, with an average price of $1.11 per litre.

Calgary's average stands at $1.06, while Edmonton's is at $1.10.

Historical data supports this trend.

In November 2025, the average retail price for regular unleaded gasoline in Edmonton was $1.226 per litre, down from $1.237 in October and $1.305 in September.

Similarly, premium unleaded gasoline averaged $1.485 per litre in November, a slight decrease from $1.494 in October.

Diesel fuel prices have also seen a decline, averaging $1.471 per litre in November, compared to $1.386 in October.

These reductions provide relief to consumers and businesses alike.

Looking ahead, forecasts suggest that gas prices may remain low into early January.

De Haan notes that the pause in the federal carbon tax has played a significant role in these price reductions.

However, he advises drivers to stay informed, as market conditions can change.

In addition to favorable gas prices, Edmonton is bustling with activities and developments.

The city recently opened O-day'min Park on November 7, 2025.

Located in downtown Edmonton, the park features a tobogganing hill, off-leash dog park, pavilion with washrooms and community space, playground, outdoor exercise area, and picnic tables.

These amenities offer residents and visitors new opportunities for recreation and community engagement.

Furthermore, the WinterCity Festivals and Events Grant Program is set to begin accepting applications in January 2026.

This program aims to support local winter festivals and events occurring between January 1 and March 31, as well as November 15 to December 31, 2026.

Grant allocations will vary based on the size, scope, and scale of each event, ranging from $500 for smaller community events to up to $60,000 for larger festivals.

These initiatives reflect Edmonton's commitment to fostering vibrant community experiences throughout the year.

As the new year approaches, Edmonton residents can look forward to continued savings at the pump and a variety of community events and developments that enhance the city's livability and appeal.
