Premier Danielle Smith will address these priorities in a televised statement, setting the stage for the province’s evolving energy landscape.
The Alberta Electric System Operator recently allocated all 1,200 megawatts of its large project cap to two major data centers, including a future Meta facility, underscoring urgent power shortages.
To meet these mounting demands, Alberta is consulting the public and Indigenous groups about integrating nuclear energy into the provincial grid.
Key initiatives include Energy Alberta’s proposal for two CANDU MONARK reactors near Peace River, and Capital Power’s plan—alongside Ontario Power Generation—to assess small modular reactors.
With federal backing, Alberta is moving toward a nuclear strategy to ensure reliable, clean energy for its fast-growing high-tech sector.
