Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre Opens in Edmonton

Edmonton's Newest Sports Hub Unveils State-of-the-Art Facilities

Edmonton is set to welcome a groundbreaking addition to its recreational landscape with the grand opening of the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre on January 27, 2026.

This state-of-the-art facility promises to be a vibrant community hub, catering to both elite athletes and local residents.

Located in central-north Edmonton, the centre boasts an impressive array of amenities designed to promote health, wellness, and community engagement.

Among its standout features is a 250-metre indoor cycling track, known as the Alberta Velodrome, which has received a Category A designation from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).

This prestigious certification qualifies the facility to host international cycling events, including World Cups and Continental Championships.

Complementing the velodrome is a 333-metre walking and running track, providing ample space for fitness enthusiasts of all levels.

The integration of the rehabilitated Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre adds a 50-metre pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and a newly added cold plunge pool to the facility's offerings.

This combination makes the centre the first indoor triathlon training facility in North America, enabling year-round training and events for triathletes.

Additional amenities include a fitness centre, bouldering wall, multipurpose courts, dedicated spin studio, indoor playground, and child-minding services.

The facility also features multipurpose rooms and studios designed to accommodate a variety of community programs and events.

Incorporating sustainable design elements, the centre showcases 60,000 square feet of exposed Mass Plywood Panels (MPP) in its roof and walls, marking the largest installation of MPP in Canada to date.

This innovative use of materials underscores Edmonton's commitment to environmental responsibility and architectural excellence.

The project has been a collaborative effort, with significant contributions from the Alberta Velodrome Association and World Triathlon Series Edmonton.

These partnerships have been instrumental in the facility's design and will play a crucial role in its ongoing programming and operations.

As the opening date approaches, anticipation is building among Edmonton residents and the broader athletic community.

The Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre is poised to become a cornerstone of the city's recreational infrastructure, fostering a culture of health, fitness, and community engagement for years to come.

For more information on memberships, programs, and facility hours, residents are encouraged to visit the City of Edmonton's official website or contact the centre directly.

With its comprehensive offerings and state-of-the-art facilities, the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre is set to redefine the recreational experience in Edmonton.
