Edmonton Oilers Triumph Over Calgary Flames in Decisive 5-1 Victory

Leon Draisaitl's Hat Trick and McDavid's Stellar Performance Lead Oilers to Dominant Win

The Edmonton Oilers delivered a commanding performance on December 23, 2025, overpowering the Calgary Flames with a 5-1 victory in the latest installment of the Battle of Alberta.

Leon Draisaitl was the star of the night, achieving his ninth career regular-season hat trick and surpassing Glenn Anderson for third place in Oilers' history with 419 goals. This milestone places him behind only legends Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri. Draisaitl's resurgence was particularly noteworthy, ending an eight-game goal drought, his longest since early 2021.

Connor McDavid extended his point streak to 11 games, amassing 12 goals and 19 assists during this period. His four-point performance against the Flames marked the 45th time he's achieved such a feat, tying him with Jari Kurri for second in franchise history.

Goaltender Connor Ingram, in his second consecutive NHL start, showcased his skills by stopping 18 shots, contributing significantly to the Oilers' defensive strength.

The Oilers' power play unit continued to dominate, converting three of six opportunities. This efficiency solidifies their position as the league's best power play, boasting a 33.3% success rate and an impressive 42.4% conversion over the last ten games.

On the Flames' side, forward Mikael Backlund maintained his recent form, recording six points in his last three games, despite the team's struggles.

Looking ahead, the Oilers and Flames are set to face off again on Saturday in Calgary, promising another thrilling chapter in their storied rivalry.

Beyond the rink, the Oilers' influence extends into the community. The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) recently celebrated a significant milestone, investing $100 million into Oil Country since its inception in 2001. This investment has profoundly impacted countless children and families across Alberta.

In August 2025, the EOCF hosted the inaugural "Every Kid Deserves a Shot Community Day" at the Fan Park in ICE District. This free, family-friendly event featured activities like ball hockey, crafts, and face painting, emphasizing the foundation's commitment to empowering youth through sport and community engagement.

Further contributing to downtown revitalization, the Oilers Entertainment Group, in partnership with the City of Edmonton and the Government of Alberta, announced plans for a new public event park adjacent to Rogers Place. This development aims to enhance the vibrancy of the ICE District, offering a versatile space for live events, performances, and community gatherings.

As the Oilers continue their pursuit of excellence on the ice, their dedication to community development and engagement remains unwavering, fostering a strong bond between the team and the city of Edmonton.
