In the news this week |
Edmonton Transit Service has unlocked premium features on its popular transit app for all riders β completely free of charge.
City council's executive committee approved a four-year subscription covering the app's full feature suite, eliminating the paywall that had frustrated commuters for years.
Riders now enjoy enhanced trip planning, real-time tracking, and seamless connections to On Demand Transit, rideshare, and e-scooters β tools once reserved for paying subscribers.
The move follows sustained public pressure, with many questioning why Edmonton hadn't followed the roughly 100 other North American municipalities already subsidizing app access.
Alongside the app upgrade, the city launched a new city-owned trip planner in June 2025, replacing a third-party tool with a platform pulling live ETS data directly.
The timing is significant β annual ridership surpassed 100 million trips in 2025, reflecting growing public confidence in Edmonton's transit network.
For students, seniors, and daily commuters alike, these cumulative improvements signal Edmonton is finally investing in a transit experience worthy of a modern, growing city. Read More... |
