In the news this week

Edmonton homeowners can expect their 2026 property tax notices this May, outlining both municipal and provincial education taxes due for the year.

The City Council’s recent approval means a 6.9% increase to the municipal tax levy.

This increase supports a range of services, from emergency response and public transit to park improvements and road upkeep.

For an average home assessed at $492,500, this results in about $318 per month for city services.

The education portion, set by the province, will cost about $104 per month, funding K–12 schools locally.

Together, most homeowners will pay around $422 monthly in property taxes.

To help, the City’s Monthly Payment Plan allows taxes to be paid in smaller installments, enroll by June 15, 2026, to spread out costs.

Full payments are due June 30, with penalties applied to late accounts.

Understanding your notice ensures you’re prepared for changes in Edmonton’s growing, evolving real estate market.
