In the news this week

Edmonton is making strides in active transportation with the expanding Bike Bus program, now serving more schools citywide.

This initiative brings students and adults together for safe, communal cycling trips along mapped routes, picking up participants at set meeting zones, mirroring a school bus system, but on bikes.

New additions like Westglen Elementary and Lendrum Elementary join the original Rutherford School route, fueled by strong community enthusiasm and a vision for healthier, more connected neighborhoods.

Routes are led by adult volunteers, such as Mike, Westglen’s Bike Bus Champion, who brings energy and expertise to each ride.

Supported by the city’s Active Transportation Network Expansion Program and School Bike Parking Grant, the Bike Bus complements recent biking infrastructure upgrades and fosters lasting, sustainable habits among students.

The program continues to inspire other Alberta communities, building momentum for a safer, greener future.
