Electricity fees are about to go up.
Lets review!

In the news this week |
Edmonton City Council voted 8-5 to raise the electricity franchise fee charged to EPCOR โ from 17.65 per cent to 19.4 per cent of electricity distribution charges โ with the change taking effect January 1, 2027.
The increase will add roughly $1.21 per month to a typical residential power bill.
The motion, brought forward by Councillor Keren Tang, aligns Edmonton's rate with Calgary's โ framing the hike as a fiscally responsible alternative to raising property taxes.
Five councillors voted against, raising concerns over affordability pressures already squeezing Edmonton households.
Critics warn the fee could hit lower-income residents hardest, as older homes typically consume more electricity while their occupants have less flexibility to invest in efficiency upgrades.
Commercial businesses face steeper impacts, with small operators potentially absorbing $3.95 more monthly โ and large institutions facing significantly higher annual costs.
The new rate will appear on bills under the Local Access Fee line, implemented by EPCOR beginning next year. Read More... |
